AMENDED POLICIES, PROCEDURES & OTHER DOCUMENTS BRIEFING – DESIGN
OVERVIEW
The following Policies/Procedures are detailed within this briefing:
- Designing For Safety
- Designer Risk Assessment
- Design Change Control & Briefing
- Design Process Map
Line Managers shall brief their team as soon as possible on the relevant information contained within these documents, as required.
Once briefed, all individuals shall then record read & understood receipt through the internal briefing process.
Designing For Safety (PP083 V01)
This procedure has been included into the ECS Integrated Management System.
The purpose of this procedure is to explain how to identify the possible health & safety risks during the design phase and how to mitigate those risks.
This procedure applies to all ECS led projects that are subject to the CDM regulations and where ECS provides a design service.
The procedure places responsibilities on the following:
- Design Manager
- Principal Designer
- Client – to be made aware that competent persons have been appointed.
- Project Manager – to have an awareness of the design process (appointments & project delivery)
The procedure details the requirements for designing for safety that includes the project requirements, competence/resources, Principal Designer, Health & Safety information from the Client, setting Health & Safety objective & targets, creating a design risk assessment, communicating information and critical design information.
The procedure also details information for monitoring & review and the reporting of relevant and information to the design team.
DESIGNER RISK ASSESSMENT (PP085 V01)
This procedure has been included into the ECS Integrated Management System.
This procedure places responsibilities on the following:
- Client
- Principal Designer
- Designer
This procedure is used by the internal Design Team for the compilation of Design Risk Assessments using the 5×5 matrix and using the design risk assessment template.
DESIGN CHANGE CONTROL & BRIEFING (PP084 V01)
This procedure has been included into the ECS Integrated Management System.
The purpose of this procedure is to define the requirements for handling technical queries and the need for change during construction and commissioning which require direction/concession by the project team or design.
SITE TECHNICAL QUERIES
The procedure explains the purpose of raising Site Technical Queries (STQs) and the actions that are required. The procedure explains that STQ can be raised by anyone on site (generally the Site Manager/Lead), but must be checked & signed by the appointed project manager. STQs can also be raised by the design team member, but must be checked & signed by the responsible designer (such as Engineering Manager or Lead Designer) and accepted by the Project Manager. Once approved, the STQ is then provided to the Site Manager/Lead for implementation.
WARNING NOTICES
The process explains the purpose for raising Warning Notices and how they are used to alert all disciplines concerned, including suppliers and site construction of the impending changes. The process also details the arrangements for creating a Warningn Notice that is created by the Design Authority for action and the issue of the Warning Notice to alert relevant disciplines of them change.
DESIGN PROCESS MAP (PP086 V01)
This procedure has been included into the ECS Integrated Management System.
This procedure explains through a flowchart, the requirements for the design tender process and design project process.
The procedure also explains the process for Technical Queries, Site Technical Queries and Inspection & Test Planning
